JOURNALS

Along the journey of creating my Senior Project, I wrote down some of my thoughts about various steps of the process in my journals. The following are key quotes from my journals that represent the setbacks, strides forward and major accomplishments that I made in my Senior Project.

Journal 2

"I knew that I needed a project that I could work on more independently; on the weekends, in between work shifts, or afterschool at the library. By combining my love for writing with my natural skill in the arts, I decided that writing a children’s book would be an ideal project for me."

"Right now I am happy at the place where I am with my fieldwork. Up to this point I have been able to work cooperatively with my mentor, and make many positive strides forward with my project. Writing the draft presented a few difficulties at first, but once I was able to establish an idea for my children’s book, I found it both relaxing and exciting to work towards creating a final, polished draft. The beginning of the writing process presented a bit of a challenge, as never having written a children's book before, I was unaware of what I should create my children's book about. After a few conversations addressing this roadblock with my mentor, I was able to understand that in order to find an idea for my book, I would have to think about something that was either personal to me, or something that I felt inspired or interested in. From here, I knew that I wanted to write about the environment and the importance of protecting the environment, as it is something that I feel should resonate with children today, with the current threats of global warming and environmental distress. After I overcame this roadblock, I was able to finish writing my rough draft. Now, I am currently in a good place where I am continuing to edit my draft with my mentor. I am proud of the draft I created sofar and I cannot wait to complete my edits. In the future, once I complete this draft, I will be able to create my illustrations and take the final steps towards completing my Senior Project."
